Thursday’s News

Greetings everyone,

First, it has been a GREAT week. The kids love it here, and we’ve enjoyed spending time together. We haven’t had a serious problem of any kind. Well, there was the soap in the fountain event. Backstory: Years ago the kids used to put laundry detergent in the fountain every year at camp. Austin College was not happy about that. Some years ago they began draining the fountains for the summer (when all the various youth groups do camps at the college) And so the tradition faded away.

Until this year. They have a new fountain and they left it full and running. And of course, someone (probably from our youth camping association though there is no proof of that) remembered the old tradition and merrily filled the fountain with soap again.

The more things change…right?

But that’s it. No injuries. No serious behavior issues. Smooth as silk.

I’ve noticed the kids starting to make friends in their community groups. we purposefully break them up for that. We always like to see them getting to know the kids from other churches.

Tonight is our final service. We will share communion together. It’s always a meaningful time.

And here’s the news for today, our last edition of the camp newspaper for 2008.

It’s been an honor being here with your kids.

Wednesday’s News

Hello all,

No time for anything today except posting Wednesday’s camp newspaper. Working on Thursday. With no Friday edition, I’ll take some time to write some thoughts about the experience as a whole.

Tuesday’s News

Greetings again, parents and friends.

And…here’s today’s news.

Tuesday morning brought rain. Lot’s of it. We’ll have to be flexible with free time and activities if it doesn’t let up. Last night was our second worship service. Very nice. People are settling in. Old camp traditions like Slammers at breakfast are being reintroduced.

Monday’s News

Greetings parents and friends,

This year’s camp newspaper is called “Soul Music. Click on the image to read the Monday edition in .pdf format.

Sunday went well at camp. For some reason I-35 was backed up. Several groups were a little late in arriving, including First Baptist Austin which was even further delayed due to the bus arriving late.

Once everyone was here, the evening went very smoothly. We worshipped together, ate together, broke up into the small groups that we will be in for the week, and had an ice cream party at the end of the night. Broadway Baptist Church’s youth choir presented a lovely song to help us in worship. Kyle Matthews was great, as was a music team led by Ann Pittman.

We’re off to a great start!
